Anonymous asked: Which relationship do you like more, book hiccup and toothless or movie hiccup and toothless?

Oooooh, this is one of the most enjoyable ask questions I’ve received in a long time!

The answer is definitely book!Hiccup and Toothless.

After all, you don’t ever hear Toothless in the movies tell Hiccup, “Yow issa snakenipper Yellfatter. Wi un squeezeblood di landmake.” (To translate for non-Dragonese speakers: You are a very mean Master. With a heart of stone.).

And you don’t hear Toothless give excuses like: “Toothless ava ow-indi-grubwasher. Me isna tickling. Issa ow-lika-dentipull. Issa parsk mee issa big dreamtime. Toothless dreamtime plus neverman issa burped. Me grubwasher issa weeklyweed buckets.” (Toothless has a stomachache. I’m not messing with you. It’s agony. It’s because I’m dying. I’m dying and nobody cares. My stomach is very, very sick.).

…and then just a moment later beg for breakfast!

One of my favorite things to read in friendships, after all, is comedic dialogue.

Essentially, every single interaction between book!Toothless and Hiccup is positively hysterical, be it Toothless apologizing for eating clothing, going on strike when Hiccup is in danger, complaining about everything, or pooping in Alvin the Treacherous’ helmet. The dualistic dysfunctionality and good-hearted loyalty in the friendship between these two makes for an interesting, entertaining, and very lovable relationship. It’s not a best friendship like in the movies, but it’s deep and complex, anyhow. Don’t dismiss it for something simple. The dynamics are great and make me love the two of them more and more with every turn of the page. Very much, it is a hilarious charm that you do not find in the same way in the movies.

That’s saying a lot, too, for initially I hated book!Toothless. How could you possibly love a selfish, egotistic, whining, iguana-sized dragon like that? Turns out that, once I became accustomed to book!Toothless’ personality… he became very, very lovable indeed. He might be slightly a static character, but he’s a very well-done character who does not get tiring or boring to readers.

I don’t think their book relationship is appreciated enough sometimes.

That said, of course the relationship between movie!Hiccup and movie!Toothless is special, too. It’s the charm that made the first DreamWorks movie take off, after all, and I’ve even written very excited analyses about the depth of their friendship. I don’t feel like it is quite as “unique” a take on a relationship as the books have, and Toothless’ personality is a little bit too… “pet-like?” for me (not quite the right word but it’ll suffice). But! This relationship also is incredible because it is so unconditional. In a world where all relationships may fragment over any reason (justified or petty), it’s very important for movie watchers to see a relationship that will endure through literally anything - even the impossible which would have shattered the bond between anyone else. So this relationship is incredible, too.

And I love movie!Hiccup, and movie!Toothless is pretty cool, too. Movie!Toothless was my first Toothless, after all, and he initially attracted me waaaaaay back in 2010 because some of his actions reminded me of a cat. But he actually isn’t on my list of top favorite characters in the HTTYD world at all. And if you asked me what my favorite character-dragon friendship was in the DreamWorks ‘verse, I’d actually say Snotfang. I bro-ship Snotfang so hard. (It’s that dysfunctional relationship full of love again, isn’t it? I’m seeing a pattern in my preferences).

Conclusively, both Hiccup/Toothless relationships are precious. Peoples’ preferences for the book!friends or movie!friends I think is based much upon what they enjoy reading/watching. For me, I love the bickering. I love the ridiculousness. I love the comedic dialogue. And man do you get so much comedy when Toothless eats Stoick’s throne and Hiccup has to cover his stupid disobedient dragon’s butt.

From that response… not that I’ve read the books yet… but it sounds like I might eventually be liking Both….

but Evil Dagur and some regular canon Movie verse stories are just waiting to be rolling out :O #NotSurprised

so basically when you have your period and your lower back hurts it is because your hips are contracting and spreading apart, only slightly, to make room for the release of the blood and linings of your uterus. so basically your body is going through a small and mild labor to push out the dead insides of your uterus. so basically I have gone through labor and basically I don’t want children.

why aren’t we taught this shit
